    Towarzystwo Muzyczne imienia Edwina Kowalika

The Edwin Kowalik Music Society is a non-governmental organisation consisting of 40 members, both blind and sighted. It was set up in 1998, by a group of blind and sighted music lovers, dedicated to continuing Edwin Kowalik’s effort to promote the activity of blind musicians – those still in education and those performing music either as amateurs or professionals. The patron of the organisation (1928-97) was a prominent blind pianist. In 1955 he was distinguished with a special award in the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. In 1957 he represented Poland at the International Piano Competition in Rio de Janeiro and won the sixth prize. From 1957 onwards, in addition to his artistic activity Edwin Kowalik was involved in the musical life of the Polish blind, working as an editor of both Braille music and a periodical at the Polish Association of the Blind. A great number of Braille musical manuals and different kinds of scores containing vocal and instrumental music were also published under his guidance. They are available in the Central Library for the Blind in the paper form only.

St Barnabas School for the Blind

The Saint Barnabas School for the Blind, located in Nicosia, is the only educational institution of its kind in Cyprus.
